There is a perception that radiators are simply lumps of metal with water flowing through them with no great thought behind how and why they work. Nothing could be further from the truth. Radiator technology has changed massively over the past decade, the largest improvement being radiator performance. Many millions of homes have 'elderly heating systems' it is quite common to hear of a boiler upgrade and perhaps a couple of radiators or a heated towel rail in the bathroom. A powerflush using the proper cleaners and installing a magnaclean filter to trap magnetite rust deposits can return the central heating system to as good as new but many older radiators may struggle to cope and let the whole system down when it comes to working at optimum performance. We can provide free and impartial advice on energy efficient radiators and heating controls. call us on 01543 473322 or email us at admin@ecaplumbing.co.uk

I agree, flushing your system and upgrading radiator valves to thermostatic will make a huge difference in energy use. I have also heard that fitting a reflective foil-based board behind radiators can dramatically increase the warm up time as the heat is reflected into the room quicker.

you can save so much money if you have decent upgraded radiators, i've recently installed those thermostats and they work a treat

A power flush may not always be the correct solution for your central heating system. Some radiators are so heavily corroded on the inside that sometimes power flushing them can make it worse. It may be time to bite the bullet and replace them with new efficient radiators with upgraded controls.

I do agree. I power flushed my system two times did not work as good I ended up buying new radiators
