There is a perception that radiators are simply lumps of metal with water flowing through them with no great thought behind how and why they work. Nothing could be further from the truth. Radiator technology has changed massively over the past decade, the largest improvement being radiator performance. Many millions of homes have 'elderly heating systems' it is quite common to hear of a boiler upgrade and perhaps a couple of radiators or a heated towel rail in the bathroom. A powerflush using the proper cleaners and installing a magnaclean filter to trap magnetite rust deposits can return the central heating system to as good as new but many older radiators may struggle to cope and let the whole system down when it comes to working at optimum performance. We can provide free and impartial advice on energy efficient radiators and heating controls. call us on 01543 473322 or email us at admin@ecaplumbing.co.uk
Landlords have until the end of 2012 to fit inspection hatches for concealed flues of all gas appliances in rental properties.
Landlords have a legal requirement to provide a Gas Safety Certicate to tenants, but if a property has gas flues in voids with no access then the heating engineer will as of January 2013 deem the system at risk and ask permission to turn off the gas until gas hatches are fitted. From now until January 2013 carbon monoxide alarms should be fitted as an interim measure. E.C.A Plumbing & Heating recommend that all Landlords fit Carbon Monoxide Alarms and have them tested during the routine gas safety inspection. We are a registered Honeywell Installer and are happy to offer advice in this area. Businesses more and more need to control costs and run a tight ship when it comes to meeting their legal obligations. Some of the new and very real regulations forcing companies to comply involve waste and environmental issues. The topic is not just about installing renewable technology into your business premises but coming up with a sustainable and future proof plan which looks at all of the business premises, operation procedures, improvements that can be made to the building and cost base to ensure that increases in energy, water and waste do not spiral out of control. Commercial Considerations:
Types of Renewable energy sources include:
The Renewables Market is still very much in its infancy It is vitally important that a business just not jump into installing renewable technologies without looking holistically at the business present and future. The Government has launched a scheme called MCS (it is a European Standard). You must use MCS accredited advisors, product manufacturers and installers. There can be money to be saved and money to be made on installing renewable energies as part of a long term strategy but be warned if done without a strategy and the right advice it may be more problems than it is worth. If done correctly the action plan can be fully financed from energy cost savings and common sense disciplines applied in the business. If selecting larger items of equipment from the ‘Governments Energy Technology List’ – you can claim 100% Capital Allowances in the year of Installation. Sources of Information The Energy Saving Trust DECC (Department for Energy and Climate Change) The Carbon Trust – 0% Interest Free Business Loans to invest in Energy Saving Projects Householders across the country could get up to £1,250 of government funding to help towards the cost of installing renewable heating systems such as biomass boilers, air and ground source heat pumps and solar thermal panels.
The Government’s new £15 million ‘Renewable Heat Premium Payment’ scheme – which will open for applications on 1st August this year until March next year - will support up to 25,000 installations. The scheme will be mainly focused at around 4 million households in Great Britain not heated by mains gas, who have to rely on higher carbon forms of heating which also tend to be more expensive than gas, such as heating oil and electric fires to keep warm. Participants will be asked to provide detailed feedback on their experience through a set of surveys. This will allow Government to gather information to better understand renewable heat technologies. How to apply The Premium Payment scheme will be run by the Energy Saving Trust and from today an information line and website will go live to provide people with more information. Householders can call 0800 512 012 or visit www.energysavingtrust.org.uk/RHPP Householders will need to ensure they have basic energy efficiency measures in place before applying on 1st August and grants will be available on a first come first served basis. From 1st August, grants for the following technologies will be available: • Ground Source Heat Pump - £1250 grant (for homes without mains gas heating) • Biomass boiler - £950 grant (for homes without mains gas heating) • Air source heat pump - £850 grant (for homes without mains gas heating) • Solar thermal hot water panels - £300 grant (available to all households regardless of the type of heating system used) Prince's Trust mentor, Karen Dowling is giving something back to a new generation of young entrepreneurs... UK householders could reduce their heating bills by adopting market leading magnetic filtration technology, according to new independent research.
The research, carried out by GASTEC, demonstrates that MagnaClean Technology from Adey Heating Solutions can reduce typical household energy consumption by 6% a year which is a significant saving in the light of anticipated gas price hikes. The findings also demonstrate reductions in carbon emissions of up to 250 kg annually for a 3 bed house. Every heating engineer worth their salt recognises the damage caused by black oxide sludge, this report confirms it can significantly reduce radiator heat output by up to 36%. There are many benefits in installing this technology, for less than £100 you could save money on gas, improve the efficiency of your boiler and extend the life of your boiler by up to 10 Years..
