Landlords have until the end of 2012 to fit inspection hatches for concealed flues of all gas appliances in rental properties.
Landlords have a legal requirement to provide a Gas Safety Certicate to tenants, but if a property has gas flues in voids with no access then the heating engineer will as of January 2013 deem the system at risk and ask permission to turn off the gas until gas hatches are fitted.
From now until January 2013 carbon monoxide alarms should be fitted as an interim measure.
E.C.A Plumbing & Heating recommend that all Landlords fit Carbon Monoxide Alarms and have them tested during the routine gas safety inspection.
